Where to Shop for Groceries During Your Stay

We often get asked where to buy groceries or pick up items you may have forgotten to pack. To help, we’ve included a little map of the route we take to the condo. Our routine includes stops at Costco, Target, and Walmart before heading to the west side of the island—it usually takes us a couple of hours.

Costco
Costco is our go-to for bulk shopping, offering the same items you’d find on the mainland, plus a great selection of local clothing, food, and souvenirs at unbeatable prices. It’s also a fantastic spot to grab swim gear, beach towels, beach equipment, and even surfboards or bodyboards. Bonus: Costco offers the cheapest fuel prices in Maui, so it’s worth filling up here.

Walmart or Target
For smaller portions or shorter stays, Walmart or Target are great options. Walmart generally has better prices and offers a large selection of souvenirs and local treats like Maui coffee, POG (Passion-Orange-Guava juice), and baked goods. If Walmart isn’t your style, Target is a solid alternative, though a bit pricier.

Whole Foods
If gourmet or specialty items are on your list, Whole Foods in Kahului is the place to go. Just like on the mainland, it’s more expensive than other stores, but you’ll find those hard-to-get gourmet items here.
Safeway and Times Markets

If you don’t shop at one of the above places, be prepared for sticker shock at Safeway or Times Markets on the west side of the island. For example, a gallon of milk could set you back $10. Groceries are significantly more expensive in this area, so we recommend planning ahead!
With this guide, you’ll know where to shop to save time, money, and stress during your Maui adventure
